Practice History

This practice has had a medical centre at Devonshire Green for over 100 years. It has always been a practice of doctors who are committed to providing medical services to vulnerable people in and near the city centre (including those with mental illness, alcohol or substance misuse problems, people who are homeless, from ethnic sub-groups, etc) as well as to the wider population.

Devonshire Green Medical Centre on Devonshire Street is purpose-built (opened in 1988) and has facilities for disabled, including ground floor disabled access and parking.

Hanover Medical Centre in William Street, Broomhall is also purpose-built and was extensively refurbished and extended in 1993. This has enabled it to provide accommodation for the practice, together with attached health visitors, district nurses and ‘the Hanover Project’ – which became the Homeless Assessment and Support Service (HASS); the practice were instrumental in initiating this service (which was awarded Department of Health Beacon status in 2000) to provide holistic care to the city centre’s homeless population.
